The Challenge
In a property damage case where our policyholder was evidently liable for damages to the claimant’s vehicle, something seemed amiss regarding the nature of the damages in relation to the accident mechanics. Although the appraiser who was sent to assess the vehicle did not pinpoint any issues, our GB Group LLC adjuster’s instinct told them that a more thorough investigation was needed.
Our Approach
Our adjuster took the initiative to dig deeper into the case. Through meticulous investigation, it was discovered that the claimant had recently purchased the vehicle from a used car dealership. Our adjuster, recognizing the possibility that some damages might have pre-existed, made the astute decision to contact the dealership for further information.
The adjuster obtained the vehicle’s listing from the dealership and reviewed it carefully.
The Breakthrough
Upon closely examining the listing, the adjuster made a critical discovery – the damages in question were visibly present on the vehicle prior to the accident. This indicated that the claim for these damages was unrelated to the incident involving our policyholder.
Equipped with this newfound evidence, our adjuster was able to clearly separate the damages that were attributable to the accident from those that were pre-existing.
The Result
As a result of the adjuster’s diligence and thorough investigation, GB Group LLC fairly compensated the claimant for the damages our policyholder was responsible for, while rightfully denying the portion of the claim related to the pre-existing damages.
This case underscores the importance of a thorough and critical investigation in claims handling. It also highlights GB Group LLC’s commitment to ensuring that claims are adjusted accurately and fairly, protecting our clients from unwarranted liability.
